Plumbing Tips!

  • Even small drips can waste thousands of gallons of water, as much as 150 gallons a day! Be sure to check under sinks for moisture or small leaks. And always repair leaky faucets right away to avoid paying for wasted water, and also to avoid water damage to your fixtures and pipes. • To help prevent clogs, fit all your tubs and shower drains with a strainer that catches hair and soap chips, and clean the strainer regularly
  • Do not rinse fats or cooking oils down the kitchen sink. Liquid fats solidify in the cold pipes and create clogs.
  • Don't forget to use a septic helper, like RidEX once a month to help regulate your septic system
  • Keep your garbage disposal clean! Foul odors occur from a buildup of food debris within the disposer. To eliminate this odor, place ice cubes and lemon or orange peels in the disposer and run for 30 seconds. Next, squirt a little liquid dish detergent into the disposer while it is still running. Finally, run cold water for about 30 seconds to rinse all the debris away.
  • Have a barely used bathroom? Be sure to flush the toilet and run the faucet for a few moments ach week to keep the traps from drying out and letting foul odors into your home.
  • Got white gunk on your showerhead? These are mineral deposits from your water. To remove these deposits from the showerhead, take a plastic bag and pour a cup of vinegar in it. Place the bag over the showerhead and use a twist tie to hold it in place overnight. In the morning, remove the bag and use an old toothbrush to gently scrub off the deposits.
  • Adding a brick inside an oldl toilet tank may may seem like a great way to save water but it will also mess up how the toilet was designed to work, consider replacing it with a new-low flush or green "purpose flush" toilet where you can choose to flush a small amount or larger amount of water.
